東アフリカ統計研修センター (EASTC)
Founded 1965 as a Centre offering only Middle Level Training Courses - i.e. Certificate. Upgraded 1966, started offering training at Intermediate Level - i.e. Diploma – courses in fields including: Ancillary subjects, Applied Statistical method, Elements of Probability Theory, Numerical Analysis, Official Statistics, and Practical Statistics. EASTC has continued to be a regional statistical institution serving Anglophone Africa, but owned by eighteen user countries, namely: Botswana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Degree programme in Official Statistics designed on request of its member countries to meet demand faced by many African Governments back in the early 2000s. Received National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE) 2012. Started offering Master’s Degree in Official Statistics (MOS) April 2014, and in Agricultural Statistics (MAS) October 2015 - in collaboration with Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) - in order to back up the current campaign aimed at improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics as per Global Strategy. PhD programme in Official Statistics in collaboration with National Statistical Systems Academy (NASA) then launched to train top-level Official Statisticians and Researchers to serve the African National Statistical Systems.
