Founded 1946 as Northeast Administration Institute. Merged with Harbin University 1948. Became People's University 1950. Incorporated Jilin University of Technology (founded 1955), Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences (founded 1939), Changchun University of Science and Technology (founded 1951) and Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (founded 1947) and acquired present status 2000.
